Sam Hunt admits he's not sure how open to be with his music, according to the Associated Press. “I’m torn at times about how much of my own life I want to put out there,” he says. For instance, Hunt's second album, Southside, closes with “Drinkin’ Too Much,” an apology to his now-wife. He first released the song in 2017 before they were married and he says, "the biggest conflict I ever had was about putting that song out... That was about as honest of a song as I’ll ever put out, or I could ever put out." Hunt's wife plays the piano at the end of the album version of the song. "I didn’t want to make a big deal over it, but I wanted her to. I wanted the song to have her blessing," he says. Hunt says that “the whole honesty is the best policy approach is what I end up circling back to, especially in this genre of music that has always been described as three chords and the truth.” However, Hunt wants people to know that the album is "definitely not autobiographical.” Southside drops today!
